Abstract

Wasting is a leading cause of child mortality worldwide, with an estimated 400,000 child deaths annually attributed to severe wasting. A key element in accelerating the reduction of nutritional problems in toddlers is the active involvement of Integrated Healthcare Center (Posyandu) cadres at the grassroots level. This study aimed to describe the role of Posyandu cadres in managing wasted toddlers at the ILP Posyandu in Jabon Village, Banyakan District, Kediri Regency. This descriptive quantitative study was conducted from November 10–22, 2025. Out of a population of 42 cadres, a sample of 30 respondents was selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed through editing, coding, scoring, and tabulating. The results indicated that 5 respondents (16.6%) demonstrated a limited role, 17 respondents (56.7%) had an adequate role, and 8 respondents (26.7%) performed a good role in managing wasting in toddlers. The cadres' role is primarily implemented through nutritional education and counseling to improve maternal awareness. However, cadres continue to face technical challenges, particularly the lack of regular nutritional training. Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) are expected to provide continuous training and updated educational modules to enhance the cadres' knowledge and skills.
